Disposable diapers are so dug in nice and proper that you don't even have to say "disposable" at the store anymore when that's what you're asking for. You just have to ask for "diapers', and that's what you get. So disposable diapers are terrible for the environment and you have to use cloth diapers, right? Well, if the cloth diapers vs disposable debate was that simple, the problem wouldn't have taken this long to resolve.

According to a long-term study done by an environmental agency in Britain, it doesn't make any difference at all to the environment, which you choose. So which side are you supposed to take in the cloth diapers vs disposable debate?

When people think about the cloth diapers vs disposable diapers debate, perhaps, it isn't an equal battle. The cloth diaper suffers from poor PR. You hear very little about how they've improved cloth diapers to the point that they use triple fabric layers, fiber-filled strips, elastic Velcro locks and so on. Cloth diapers are not the messy old variety from 50 years ago when you had to fashion something out of a rag. You’d never know for all the PR it gets though.

So let's try to take PR at of the equation and consider the cloth diapers vs disposable diapers debate on the merits of the two kinds of diapers alone.

Let's start with the health and safety angle. To parents, keeping their little babies free of diaper rash is an important concern. Babies get diaper rash when their skin is left in contact with pee for so long that bacteria begins to make it go bad. There are all kinds of things that are responsible for this – the lack of air circulation, prolonged dampness, chemical allergies and so on.
