Why you Should give LED Outdoor Lighting a Try?

In most homes, indoor lighting is given a priority and so high is this priority that homeowners will go out of their way to ensure that they get nothing but the best indoor lighting. While the indoor lighting is well taken care of in most homes, the outdoor lighting is neglected but this can be changed by use of LED outdoor lighting. LED lights are ideal for lighting up fountains, ponds, gardens and lawns. As compared to other kinds of outdoor lighting, LED lighting consumes low voltage making it the best to use for outside the house. Additionally, the LED lights also come with a number of features, like up and down or in some instances backlights, all of which can be used to enhance the look of a garden. Unknown to most people, it is also possible to float LED lights in ponds and pools for illumination. This can make for beautiful accentuated effects around your house as well. In addition to this, you can be able to change the colors of the LED outdoor lighting when you want to. This can be done using colored cellophane paper which will make the whole view even more dramatic.

LED lights can be used with plants as well since it has been proven that plants can bring additional shades and hues to the LED lights. Apart from the water and the other conventional places, you can hang the lights on the walls to bring some vibrancy to the place. If you want LED lights to work for your home you should start by planning properly for them. This means that you should take a good look at the place that they will be used and try to determine how many will be needed to properly illuminate the place.

Xeriscaping Ideas – to Save the Environment

Author: Rhoden at 9-04-2012, 09:18, Views: 19

A green grass lawn is real Americana – all the trappings that really make life in America feel American. But perhaps we let our enthusiasm get the better of us. The area of land that Americans devote to their lawns, if you added it all up, would be enough to cover an entire large American state. If you live in a state like Nevada or Arizona where droughts are a regular feature of summer every year, it quickly becomes apparent that the beauty of a lawn is something we can't afford. This is where xeriscaping ideas come in.

Funny how we think that a green lawn is a wonderful thing. And we think of xeriscaping ideas as some kind of desertification. The truth is the exact opposite. Lawns use up a third of all the water supplied to households across the country. We use vast amounts of pesticides and fertilizers to keep these grassy patches alive.

And then to mow all that grass, would you believe that we actually use nearly a billion gallons of gas a year? All of these put together account for 7% of all the environmental pollution in America. Just imagine – if everyone in America would give their green lawns up and take to the xeriscaping instead, we would bring our environmental pollution down by 7%.

Picking the right Fence Designs for your Home

Author: mbc at 31-03-2012, 00:06, Views: 7

Our choices in fence designs don't have a functional or practical reason to them a lot of the time. More often than not, a choice of fence design is sentimental. It is whatever you feel makes your space feel like your own.

Still, even if a fence does feel like that, it does fulfill a very important functional purpose. We may not really spend much time thinking of the practical functions performed by right choice of fence; however, if they didn't perform those functions, the sentimental or emotional part really wouldn't seem right after all.

Just take a look at all the important practical needs fences can fulfill. They can help deter trespassers, they can help keep prying eyes out so that you can be free to be yourself in your home, and they can help you keep your pets and small children inside and away from harm.

There are fence designs with noise-buffering blankets that can really keep traffic noise out, and a good protective fence can keep the wind and a good deal of snow out too.

Never go without an Above Ground Swimming Pool Deck for your Pool

Author: mbc at 11-01-2012, 03:30, Views: 188

To many people, owning an above-ground swimming pool is just about the pool itself. Spending even more money on a pool deck that surrounds the pool is just a waste of money. The thing is, building an above-ground swimming pool deck doesn't cost these days what it used to. They make them in all kinds of sizes for every budget. And anyway, you have to realize that a deck-less swimming pool is just an invitation to everyone who swims in it to bring dirt in on their feet.

Consider an above ground swimming pool deck that's pre-fabricated out of aluminum. These days, these would cost you just about the same as a standard wooden deck, and aluminum is maintenance free. With wood that's exposed to the sun all the time, you always have to be on the lookout for splintering, cracking or just a washed-out look. Aluminum on the other hand just lasts forever. You just don't need to do anything about it. The great thing is, aluminum deck manufacturers do their best to mimic the construction design of a standard wood deck. So it should look familiar, more or less.

Trying your Hand at above Ground Pool Landscaping

Author: mbc at 10-01-2012, 01:31, Views: 208

A pool in the backyard used to be something that only the rare well-to-do family had. Pools, though, have become quite affordable. Still, to those who can't afford a regular inground pool, a ready-made above-ground one is always a possibility. An above ground pool though can be expensive both to buy and to maintain. To the typical family that buys one of these, it often is tempting, the thought that they could just dispense with any aboveground pool landscaping completely, to save on costs.

What difference could it make, they ask themselves, and who’s going to know the difference? Well, you have to know that a pool isn't just a functional thing. People don't just buy pools to swim in them. They buy them for the lifestyle that they get to enjoy.

Appropriate Yard Decorations For Christmas

Author: mbc at 12-12-2011, 08:51, Views: 4

I have been assigned the role in my family of decorating the outside of the house each year for Christmas, and I make it a goal to find appropriate yard decorations. It is important to me that my yard be decorated with class and taste, and I think I have a pretty good idea of telling the difference between yard decorations for Christmas that are appropriate and those that are not.

Whenever one is putting up yard decorations for Christmas, it is usually to try to make their home stand out from the rest. If this is done cleverly, one can have a very unique-looking yard and house, while still not sticking out like a sore thumb. When it is not done cleverly, however, it can be downright embarrassing and hard to look at!

Case in point — a few years ago, a neighbor of ours decided to go with a cowboy-themed Christmas, where he would use different figures from the Old West and pioneer days to take the place of the usual Christmas crew. So he had Santa Claus dressed up like an outlaw, wearing a big duster and packing heat! Instead of reindeer, he used horses, with the sled being an old covered wagon like those used in the late eighteenth century. The elves were all wearing handkerchiefs over their faces and so forth.
